Patient Information

What to expect on your visit.

Before we begin treatment of any kind, we typically start with an evaluation to assess your current physical condition and discuss any issues you may have. After the evaluation of your condition has been completed, a plan of care is developed that outlines the recommended treatment course.

Once the plan of care has been decided, the treatment may begin. Typically treatments are initiated immediately after the evaluation, or you can schedule it for a later date that is more convenient to you.

Tuina Massage

A first time massage patient at our clinic will complete a very thorough intake form detailing current and past health complaints for our therapist to review. Each patient is treated as an individual; therefore each massage session will vary. Your therapist will combine a variety of massage modalities, as well as different levels of pressure to customize each session to your individual needs. While the session may retain a large relaxation element to it, advanced techniques are likely to be used for pain and chronic health issues. Such techniques may include deep tissue, trigger point release, Integrative Reflexology, Movement Therapy and muscle repositioning.

spa stones
For your comfort, we will take you to a peaceful, spa-like treatment room where a comfortable table dressed with crisp, clean sheets awaits.

The treatment is done in a spa-like treatment room, where a comfortable table dressed with crisp clean sheets and robe awaits. There is a small table to place your personal belonging and a comfortable chair is also provided. Depending on the type of treatment being addressed, disrobing may be appropriate. The clinician will leave the room and allow you time to disrobe to your level of comfort. You will always be appropriately draped with the top sheet during your session and additional blankets are available at your request. The clinician will only uncover the part of the body being worked on, ensuring that your modesty is at all times respected. Before beginning the session, the clinician will ask you to inform/alert them of discomfort, questions or concerns you may have at any time during the treatment session.

Once your session is completed, and you have re-dressed your clinician or a staff member will accompany you to the receptionist area where your next appointment will be scheduled.

For Acupuncture Treatments

Initially the acupuncturist will spend up to 30 minutes asking about your complaint, such as how long you've had the problem, your current symptoms, your health history, your diet, your sleeping habits and bowel movements and other information that may seem irrelevant to you - just remember that TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) is an holistic medical system that recognizes the link between body, mind and emotions. Your physical ailment may well have an emotional component too.

Acupuncture Treatment

Depending on your problem you will lie on the treatment table face down, or on your back, or on one side. Usually from 4-12 acupuncture points are selected. The most common points are on your arms below your elbows, on your legs below your knees and along either side of your spine from your neck to your sacrum. Each point is swabbed with alcohol before the needle is inserted.

The Acupuncture Needles used are Tiny, (thin as a strand of hair), sterile, disposable needles which are discarded after each use. Needles are of a variety of sizes and length depending on the area being addressed. The stimulation felt from the needles may vary, such as a gentle electrical sensation, pressure to the area, or a gentle internal wavelike sensation moving all over the body. Should you experience any discomfort, inform the practitioner, and they will adjust the needles accordingly.

The treatments are approximately 30 to 45 minutes. The treatment atmosphere is usually calm, relaxing, soothing music, running water, and in some cases aromatherapy may be used to bring about a feeling of tranquility.
